I was born and raised in Taiwan. Throughout my childhood, the unusual amount of freedom I was given has nurtured my life long passion for exploration and creating new things. As the daughter of a traditional Chinese scholar and a spiritual teacher, I was also exposed to the beauty of words and spirituality at avery young age, consequently, these two elements have become the essence of my creativity and self expression.

Writing has always been personal and extremely intimate to me. It was never an ability I learned to develop, it was pure necessity. Between the ages 13 to 23 I wrote in my diary consistently, until thoughts and emotion gradually transformed into lyrics and poems. I had two books published in Taiwan in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. One was a collection of lyrics and poems, the second was a collection of short stories.

Music was the center of my life from my late teens to my early 30’s. I was one of the final 7 winners (out of over 1000 contestants) of a nationwide folk song competition. The unexpected result profoundly altered my destiny. In 13 years, I matured from an inexperienced young folk singer, into an established song writer; highly recognized recorded artist (with four solo albums and numerous collaborations with other artists); record producer (produced numerous albums and projects for high-profile celebrities and vocalists); writer and radio DJ.

Visual art work is an art form discovered much later in my life. I have always enjoyed playing with fine tools and have long been fanatical about paper, stationeries and nature materials. At the end of 1997, through the introduction of a friend, I became one of the handmade card designers for Constance Kay, the most influential agent in the handmade card industry. In my one year contract with her, my cards, which featured unique combinations of three dimensional art work and original writing, as well as wire figures were sold to Nieman Marcus, Barneys, the gift shop of The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and many other high end boutiques and gift shops all over the country.

In early 1990, I immigrated to the United States, since then, I have resided in the San Francisco Bay Area. My husband and I met in Taiwan in 1988 and we were married in San Francisco in 1991. We founded Point Asia, a multimedia distribution and localization company in 1993. I was the General Manager of the Taiwan office from 1993 – 1995, where I utilized my rich connections in the media and entertainment industries, successfully bringing unconventional ways to market computer software products into the local market.

In September of 2000, I gave birth to our daughter, Lea. After surviving the complex challenges of early motherhood, in spring 2003, I rented a studio in the Industrial Center Building in Sausalito. It wasn’t until I started moving with calligraphy brushes, channeling all the spontaneous movement in my body onto the paper, that I finally re-discovered the means of artistic expression for which I had been searching for many years. Each time the tip of the brush touches the paper it is as if my being disappears; the brush takes on a life of its own, my body merely a partner in its dance. A state of simultaneous mindfulness and mindlessness arises, and a time and space of freedom opens, where I can fully surrender into an unpredictability that constantly haunts me.
